Frequently asked questions

Eyelash Extensions

What are lash extensions?

A process in which a single natural eyelash is isolated and a faux lash or hand-made volume fan is applied to the top of your own natural eyelash approximately 1 mm from the eyelid so neither the glue nor the lash has contact with the skin. Eyelash extensions are perfect for special occasions or for day-to-day wear. Lash extensions can only be applied to your natural lashes, not your skin.

How do I choose the look I want?

Eyelash extensions are available in a variety of lengths, curls, and thicknesses. I will consult with you first to see what type of style you are interested in. I also determine what your lashes can safely hold in regards to size and weight. Each person’s lashes will vary in strength and length, and I take this into consideration when creating a customized look specifically for you. The overall look can range from very natural to more dramatic depending on your desired style.

How long do lash extensions last?

Lash extensions will stay on anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks. Retention depends on many factors, including proper aftercare, proper preparation, lifestyle, and proper application. Due to the natural lash growth cycle, maintenance appointments are needed to replace extensions that have naturally shed with your lashes.

What is a fill?

A refill consists of the lash artist going through the lashes to remove grown-out lash extensions and add new extensions to fill in the areas where natural lashes have naturally shed.

How often should I get touch ups?

I recommend getting a touch up every 2-4 weeks. If you wait too long, your eyelash extensions will become sparse and you may require a full set. Your natural eyelashes naturally shed every 45 to 60 days due to your natural growth cycle and are replaced with new lashes. Other factors such as exposure to steam, touching your eyes frequently, oils, and improper aftercare may cause extensions to fall sooner.

Can I apply mascara to lash extensions?

Yes, although mascara is usually not necessary since extensions already create the appearance of darker, fuller lashes. If you choose to wear mascara, it must only be a water-based mascara. DO NOT USE OIL-BASED OR WATERPROOF MASCARA. Waterproof mascara and oil-based products can break down the adhesive bond and shorten the life of your extensions. Only apply mascara from the middle of the lash to the tip, avoiding the base area. Use a water-based eye makeup remover when removing mascara.

Will lash extensions damage my natural lash?

No. When applied correctly by a trained lash artist and properly maintained, eyelash extensions will not damage your natural lashes. Extensions are customized based on the health, strength, and natural growth pattern of your lashes to ensure they are not overloaded.

Everyone’s natural lashes are different. Some clients naturally have finer, shorter, or more delicate lashes and may benefit from additional support while wearing extensions. Even with a healthy application and proper aftercare, some natural lash types simply need extra conditioning to help maintain their length, strength, and overall health.

I personally experienced the benefits of using a lash serum while wearing extensions and saw a noticeable difference in the health and strength of my own natural lashes. I use, swear by, and carry GrandeLASH-MD, which is a product I recommend to clients who want to support and maintain the condition of their natural lashes while wearing extensions. It’s also great even if you’re not getting extensions. I love using this for everyday lash life and for lifts and tints.

With proper application, maintenance, aftercare, and the right support for your individual lashes, extensions can be worn beautifully while keeping your natural lashes healthy.

How can lash extensions be removed?

Please do not try to remove lash extensions yourself. Picking or pulling on extensions can remove your natural lashes. I use a professional gel remover specifically designed to safely weaken the adhesive bond without damaging your natural lashes.

Are lash extensions permanent?

Lash extensions are semi-permanent. Your natural lashes grow and shed at their own pace, which is why maintenance appointments are needed every 2-4 weeks.

Can I use eyelash curlers with lash extensions?

I do not recommend using mechanical eyelash curlers on your eyelash extensions. These curlers can damage the extensions, cause them to bend incorrectly, and potentially damage your natural lashes.

Do you fill in other lash artist's work?

Yes. I ask clients to send pictures of their lashes before coming in and require you to book a 75 or 90 minute appointment. If it looks like the current set needs to be removed and we start from scratch I will let you know after seeing the pictures.

What are the extensions made of?

I use high-quality faux mink lashes.

How can I wash my lash extensions and what do I use?

YOU NEED TO WASH YOUR LASHES. Keeping your lashes clean is one of the most important parts of proper lash extension aftercare. Use an extension-safe foam cleanser and a soft, fluffy eyeshadow brush to gently cleanse your lashes. Use circular motions along the lash line, rinse thoroughly, and gently pat them dry. NEVER brush your lashes while they are wet.

Can people with straight lashes get lash extensions?

Yes. I offer different lash curls and styles that can be customized to your natural lash type and desired look.

Do you do bottom lashes?

I am not offering bottom lash extensions at this time.

How do I take care of my new lash extensions?

  • Wash your lashes daily or as recommended with an extension-safe cleanser.

  • Avoid oil-based products around the eye area.

  • Avoid makeup wipes, as they can contain oils and create friction that affects retention.

  • Do not rub, pull, or pick at your lashes.

  • Avoid excessive heat, steam, and saunas.

  • Avoid splashing water directly onto your lashes. Allow water to gently run down your face instead.

  • Only use water-based mascara if desired.

  • If applying mascara, apply from the middle of the lash to the tip and avoid the root area.

  • Use a water-based eye makeup remover.

  • Do not perm your extensions.

  • Do not use a mechanical eyelash curler.

  • Do not pull on your lashes, as this may cause your natural lashes to come out prematurely.

  • DO LIE and say they are yours!

Lash Lifts and Tints

What is a lash lift and tint?

A lash lift and tint is a semi-permanent treatment that enhances your natural lashes by lifting and curling them from the base, creating the appearance of longer, more open eyes. A tint is applied to darken your natural lashes, giving them a mascara-like effect without the daily maintenance.

What is a lash tint?

A lash tint is a semi-permanent color treatment that darkens your natural lashes. It is perfect for clients who want their lashes to appear darker, more defined, and more noticeable without applying mascara every day. A tint enhances the lashes you already have but does not add length, curl, or thickness.

What products do you use for lash lifts?

I use the Elleebana Elleeplex Profusion Lash Lift System, a professional cysteamine-based lash lifting system known for being a gentler alternative to traditional lash lift formulas.

Cysteamine is an amino acid-derived ingredient that works by gently breaking and reforming the bonds within the hair structure to create a lift. Unlike traditional thioglycolate-based formulas, cysteamine-based systems are designed to be gentler on the hair while still providing a beautiful, long-lasting lift.

Elleebana Elleeplex Profusion is formulated to help maintain lash health, strength, and integrity throughout the lifting process when properly applied.

What makes your lash lift system different?

I use the Elleebana Elleeplex Profusion Lash Lift System, along with a professional lash lift adhesive that contains keratin. I also add additional keratin to the setting solution to help support the health and condition of the natural lashes throughout the service.

While the lifting lotion is carefully applied only to the appropriate area of the lash and is not processed on the entire length of the lash, keratin is present throughout the service to help condition and support the full lash. This allows me to create a beautiful lift while prioritizing the strength and integrity of your natural lashes.

Do I need a tint with my lash lift?

A tint is highly recommended with a lash lift because it enhances the overall result by making your natural lashes appear darker and more defined. Many clients find that after a lash lift and tint, they no longer need mascara for everyday wear because their lashes already look longer, lifted, and darker.

Can I get just a lash tint without a lift?

Yes. A lash tint is a great option for clients who are happy with their natural lash curl but want their lashes to appear darker and more noticeable. A tint is also a great low-maintenance option for clients who want to enhance their natural lashes without adding curl.

Will a lash tint make my lashes look thicker or longer?

A lash tint will make your natural lashes look darker and more defined, which can create the appearance of fuller lashes, but it does not physically add length or thickness. If you want the appearance of added volume, length, or fibers, you can still use mascara after the appropriate waiting period.

Can I wear mascara after a lash lift and tint?

Yes! Most clients find they do not need mascara after a lash lift and tint because their natural lashes already appear darker, longer, and lifted. If you want additional length, thickness, or a more dramatic look using mascara fibers, you can apply mascara after 48 hours.

Can I wear mascara after a lash tint only?

Yes. After a tint-only appointment, wait 24 hours before applying mascara to allow the tint to fully set.

Is a lash lift damaging to my natural lashes?

When performed correctly by a trained professional using high-quality products, a lash lift should not damage your natural lashes. I use the Elleebana Elleeplex Profusion system, which uses a gentler cysteamine-based formula designed to help minimize stress on the lashes while creating a beautiful lift. Proper timing, customized processing, and aftercare are key to maintaining healthy lashes.

How long does a lash lift and tint last?

A lash lift and tint typically lasts 6-8 weeks depending on your natural lash growth cycle. Since your lashes naturally shed and regrow, the lifted and tinted lashes will gradually be replaced by new, untreated lashes over time.

How long does a lash tint last?

A lash tint typically lasts 3-6 weeks depending on your natural lash growth cycle, lifestyle, and aftercare. As your natural lashes shed and regrow, the tinted color will gradually fade.

How do I take care of my lash lift and tint?

  • For a lash lift and tint, keep your lashes completely dry for the first 48 hours after your appointment. This includes avoiding water, steam, saunas, swimming, and excessive moisture.

  • For a tint-only appointment, keep lashes dry for the first 24 hours.

  • After the recommended waiting period:

  • Avoid rubbing or pulling on your lashes.

  • Avoid excessive heat and steam when possible.

  • Avoid oil-based products directly on your lashes.

  • Avoid mechanical eyelash curlers, as they are unnecessary and can damage your natural lashes.

  • Keep your lashes clean and treat them gently to maintain the health and longevity of your results.

Can I get a lash lift if I have sensitive eyes?

Many clients with sensitive eyes do well with the Elleebana Elleeplex Profusion system because cysteamine-based formulas are generally considered gentler than traditional lash lift solutions. However, everyone’s sensitivity is different. If you have a history of eye sensitivity, allergies, or reactions to lash services, a patch test is recommended before your appointment.

Please contact me before booking your appointment so I can get you in for the patch test and then I will book your appointment after.

What is the difference between a lash lift and eyelash extensions?

A lash lift enhances your natural lashes by curling and darkening them, while eyelash extensions add individual synthetic lashes to create additional length, fullness, and volume. A lash lift is a lower-maintenance option because there are no extensions to maintain or refill.

Can I get a lash lift if my lashes are short or straight?

Yes. A lash lift can enhance many different lash types, including straight lashes. The results will depend on your natural lash length, thickness, and condition. A customized lift can help create the appearance of more open, lifted eyes.
